Apparently, there's a dwindling number of new rock bands coming out in America. In a recent interview speaking about their new album, what I while loosely term "rockers" Nickelback cited Guitar Hero to blame.
Really? I mean... Really? Strong opinions from Nickelback?
It's really a hard sell when the source happens to be a very cheesy pop group that can only loosely be described as partially decent instrumentals and insubstantial lyrics, held together by a thin veneer of catchiness.
Now, granted Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises are becoming more and more popular as time goes on, there exists a strong doubt in my mind that it has anything to do with falling numbers real bands.
Could it be record labels aren't signing people? Could the brand of music just not be as popular these days as, say, Hip-hop/R&B or (shudder) country? Could it be that the genre is so full of wasted space and garbage that new bands can't claw up to any reasonable height? Naw, of course not, lets blame video games!
The true lesson behind this, is that games detract from real world practices. Brain Age keeps people out of school, DDR prevents aspiring young men and women from training in ballet next, and don't forget: Grand Theft Auto will keep people out of prison.
Oh, and simply horrific.
