Smoking isn't the only drug to avoid when TTC

We all know smoking should be avoided when we're trying to get pregnant but what about prescription medications? According to Chris Woolston, there are medications that both men and women should avoid when trying to get pregnant. And when you're living in an environment as fast-paced and stressful as Dallas, it's easy to fill up the medicine cabinet with prescription drugs for everything from heartburn to high blood pressure.

Some prescription drugs can impair fertility in both men and women. For men, the list of potential culprits includes the heartburn medication cimetidine (Tagamet), the rheumatoid arthritis drug (Azulfidine), and several chemotherapy drugs. A woman's fertility may be hampered by certain antibiotics, painkillers, antidepressants, and hormonal treatments.

Per Beth Kiley, additional medications to avoid include those to control a chronic condition
such as high blood pressure, inflammatory bowel disease or gout, or to suppress the immune reaction to a transplanted organ may all have a harmful effect on fertility.

Ask your doctor if any of your medications could be causing infertility. A change of prescription just might solve the problem.
