An equine is any member of the Equus genus, including donkeys, horses, ponies mules and even zebras. The word “equine” is derived from the Latin noun, “equines,” meaning “horse.”
Used as an adjective, the word “equine” may refer to anything that resembles a horse or relates to a horse. For example, a veterinary student majoring in the care of horses would be focused upon equine veterinary sciences.
What is an equestrian?
An equestrian, then, is a person who handles, trains, rides or drives horses, or equines. In proper usage, one might refer to a female horseback rider or horse handler as an equestrienne.
