The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel will be hosting a “Tweet Up” on Wednesday the 22nd at Milwaukee’s Hotel Intercontinental, located at 139 East Kilbourn Avenue. For those unfamiliar with the concept of a Tweet Up, it is essentially a meet and greet function for people “following” one another’s posts on the microblogging site Twitter.com.
In today’s increasingly wired world, the Internet provides a new conduit for sharing creative ideas. Journal Sentinel blogger Mary Louise Schumacher, who this reporter has guest blogged for in the past, said in an e-mail “we’ve engaged many of our readers on Twitter and get lots of story ideas and input from people by engaging in that way.” The upcoming Tweet Up provides an opportunity to take that engagement one step further, meeting online friends in “real life.”
The Tweet Up is open to the public. Even those who have not followed Journal Sentinel bloggers and columnists on Twitter are welcome to come. Of course, you need to remember that the night’s primary function is to connect avid fans and readers with the dedicated writers and editors that make the Journal Sentinel possible. Therefore, you’ll likely have a better time at the event if you’re a regular Journal Sentinel reader and/or if you follow a particular Journal Sentinel staff member’s Twitter page.
The meet and greet starts at 6:30pm and goes until 9:30pm. It is a great opportunity for those in the Milwaukee area to mingle with some of Milwaukee’s finest writers. Aforementioned blogger Mary Louise Schumacher will be attending, as will a number of the exceptionally creative guest writers for her blog, including Nathaniel Stern, Stacey Williams-Ng, Sara Mulloy, Deb Brehmer, and Adam Carr.
