As the Bay Area tries to plan their Monday commute, Caltrans still is unwilling to commit to a timeframe for re-opening the Bay Bridge.
Lauren Wonder, spokeswoman for Caltrans, said on Saturday that repairs were progressing on the failed brace. However, there were too many unknowns remaining in the repair to say whether or not Monday morning commuters will be able to use it.
Even after the work is complete, independent inspectors will have to review the repair work and sign off on it or request more testing.
BART will still be running additional trains to help alleviate crowded Bay Area bridges, and the Golden Gate Ferry system also offers an excellent alterative to the car commute.
