    Essentials of Legislative Leadership Training for people with mental disabilities sponsored by the Keep the Promise   (KTP) Coalition.

Upon request, the trainings are also available to 15 or more persons in a condensed version.     Autism Boot Camp
    Simsbury, CT

On Monday, December 8, 2008, an Autism Boot Camp will be held at 1p.m. at the Farmington Valley JCC, located at 55 Bushy Hill Road in Simsbury, Connecticut.  Shannon Knall, Autism Speaks' Connecticut Advocacy Chair and mom to a son with autism, will present the boot camp.  The Autism Awareness Boot Camp provides a forum for an open discussion about the disorder.  Attendees will also view a brief screening of the award-winning documentary, "Autism Every Day" which provides a glimpse into life with autism and will hear from Janet Haley, District Wide Autism Consultant for the Town of Simsbury, on the key components of an educational program.  Attendees are encouraged to bring a guest.  Please RSVP by December 3rd to Shannon Knall at 860-573-7600 or sknall@mac.com.

    Introduction to SCERTS Model for Students with ASD
    Vernon, CT

On Monday, December 15, 2008, Vernon Public Schools will host a one day training entitled, "Introduction to SCERTS Model for Students with ASD."  The conference will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rockville High School auditorium in Vernon, Connecticut.  SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, Transactional Support) is a model developed by Prizant, Wetherby, Rubin and Laurent, that is intended to provide a flexible, yet comprehensive framework for designing a multidisciplinary plan for children with ASD.  "Introduction to SCERTS Model for Students with ASD"  will be presented by Barry Prizant.
