Thanksgiving is fast approaching and the urge to slack off on schoolwork may be getting the best of you. If so, here are some Thanksgiving themed prompts to get those creative holiday juices flowing. 

Daily Prompts

  • Monday-If I were at the first Thanksgiving, I would....
  • Tuesday-When we went shopping for our Thanksgiving meal, we...
  • Wednesday-My favorite part of Thanksgiving is_________ because...
  • Thursday-Happy Thanksgiving!

Picture Prompt

This picture can be a photo or a drawing. Attach the photo (or have your homeschooler draw a picture) on the top of the journal page and then write about the picture.
 

  • Autumn in St. Louis: Take or draw a picture that represents the colors of autumn.
  • Write a letter to someone describing autumn in St. Louis.

Creative Writing Prompt

Write a short story that starts where the prompt leaves off.

Special Note

Keep journal writing fun. Set a 15-minute time limit for writing, but allow students to keep writing beyond the time limit if they wish to.
