“Someone told me it's all happening at the zoo.” Paul Simon said it, and he’s absolutely right! The John Ball Zoo is THE place to be this summer.
Got chimps? The John Ball Zoo sure does. Their amazing chimpanzee family resides in a beautiful 1/3 acre habitat. The Treasures of the Tropics houses the only Komodo Dragons in Michigan as well as lots of other reptiles and amphibians. The Van Andel Living Shores Aquarium offers a chance to observe the penguins and touch a sea star or sea urchin. Get up close and personal with lions, experience Sting Ray Lagoon, and laugh out loud as you watch the playful river otters.
Did you know the John Ball Zoo offers so much more than just animal exhibits? If you dare, try the 300 foot zip line that takes you soaring over the zoo’s petting corral. For a unique experience for even your little ones, take a ride on a camel! Paddle on the park’s pond in beautiful swan boats and take in the scenery. And, if you’re 7 years and up, give the Sky Trail Ropes Course a try. .jpg)
The John Ball Zoo also offers summer discovery classes for kids ages 3 – 8th grade. Every Tuesday from 11am – 1pm, the zoo offers fun and free kids activities. There’s even a chance to bring your sleeping bags and camp out overnight on the deck of the chimp exhibit. In the summer months you can also “rent out” the zoo after hours for your birthday party or family gathering.
The zoo is open every day (except Christmas Day). Summer hours are 9am – 6pm. Admission rates are as follows: Adults (14-61 years) are $7.50, Seniors (over 62 years) are $6.50, Children (3-13 years) are $5.50, and Children 2 years and under are free!
