Kids are going to learn from their parents, in all aspects of life. If they can learn good organizational skills at an early age, chances are they'll stick with them through the years. The following are some tips for promoting good habits at home when it comes to staying organized, being neat and tidy, and keeping the house free of clutter. A lot of these are easier said than done, so keep in mind that it may take some time to make them routine. Bad habits are easy to fall into, but good habits can take some work. If it seems overwhelming to do everything on this list at once, choose 2 things from the list to try and implement in your household each week. In a little over a month, you'll be doing all 10 things!
Habit #1: Insist that toys are picked up before the kids go to bed.
Habit #2: Clean off kitchen counters before you go to bed.
Habit #3: Prepare for the next day the night before.
Habit #4: Give everything a place.
Habit #5: Establish a family communication system.
Habit #6: Create a daily or weekly TO-DO list.
Habit #7: If you haven't used it in a year, get rid of it (or donate/recycle it).
Habit #8: Keep a running grocery list posted somewhere where everyone can get to it, and everyone
can add to it when needed.
Habit #9: Plan ahead for the week's meals and you'll save money and time in the long run.
Habit #10: Finish what you start.
