During these tough economic times, every little bit helps.  Many people began to drive more responsibly when gas was $4.00 per gallon, yet they forget the second it's no longer an issue of cost.  And while gas price have gone down a lot, it does not mean they will stay that way.  Not only does fast and reckless driving decrease your gas mileage significantly, it is dangerous to the environment and the entire population.

Instead of racing in and out of traffic, why not try slowing down and setting the cruise control for 60mph?  Not only will your gas mileage drastically improve, but your state of mind will as well.  You will no longer have to be stressed about cutting the guy off next to you.  Slower and steady driving is much more relaxing and benefically to your mental health.  If 60mph is too slow for you, 65mph is acceptable, but remember that every mph you drive above 55mph greatly reduces your gas mileage because of increased wind drag.

In addition to slowing down, always remember to cost as much as possible and accelerate gradually.  No one ever saved any time, money, or ecosystems by stomping on the gas and racing to the next red light.  Also, if you find yourself stopped anywhere for more than a few seconds, shut the engine off on your car.  It is a complete myth that it takes more gas to start your car than it does to leave it idle.  I know it's cold out in Cleveland, but your car will not lose heat in the time you take in the bank drive-thru.  Last but not least, don't forget to check your tire pressure, you will not believe how much this helps.
