In today's modern society, virtually everything is either made from or contains potentially harmful chemicals.  Fortunately, there are ways to avoid many chemicals and even save money  and cut down waste in the process.  Instead of subjecting yourself and the environment to noxious fumes and dangerous chemicals, you can clean your entire house using just a few simple household items.

For a great all purpose cleaner, simply combine equal parts vinegar and water.  The vinegar smell fades as it dries, and it will leave your home smelling fresh without any residue.  Any kind of vinegar is appropriate, although white vinegar is generally the most popular.  For tougher stains, baking soda works quite well, and will not scratch your counters.  Baking soda is especially effective against soap scum and works great as a carpet deodorizer.

These are just a couple of the many great alternatives available for cleaning your home, all of which are chemical free, inexpensive, and generate less waste.  For other great tips, check out sites like treehuggingfamily.com
