This is not designed to be one of those back-from-the-dead zombie stories that crop up around Halloween. This is serious.
De La Salle has a 151-game unbeaten streak again, this one is against North Coast Section opponents. Since their NCS title game loss in 1991, they have defeated every NCS foe except one, an odd tie against Clayton Valley in 2004.
De La Salle's "real" winning streak is beyond legendary; simply put it's the most amazing feat in the history of prep sports. From September of 1992 through December of 2003, they beat every team they played. When critics said their schedule was soft, they began playing every squad who would take them, including the epic showdown with Long Beach Poly some called the game of the Millenium, which the Spartans of course won.
As impressive as the first 151-gamer is, this one might be better. For one thing, it has lasted longer (1992-current), even though it is just now 151 games (150-0-1).
They've had to mangle Monte Vista, control California, guard against Granada, and survive San Ramon Valley. Over the years it has been relatively easy for De La Salle but this year seems to be different. The streak may not grow past 151; the same place the overall winning streak ended.
The Spartans have near-losses against Monte Vista and California with possible rematches against those teams looming.
Ultimately, the streak that no one is talking about could go away before we get a chance to appreciate it.
