Solar powered USB hub and charger
When I first saw this device on Gizmodo I wondered why anyone would need a solar powered USB hub? Upon further investigation I actually think it is pretty cool.
According to the manufacturer:
"The USB Solar Charging 4-Port Hub is not only a USB 4-Port Hub, but also a solar charger. It comes with six mobile phone connectors that can recharge most known mobile phone types and USB interfacing digital products. This solar charger can be recharged through direct sunlight, AC power or car power. It is convenient for you to take along with when you are out on business, on travel, on a long journey on bus or ship, etc. It is a portable, environmentally-friendly, lightweight, durable and versatile solar charging product."
The device is indeed lightweight at 54 grams and it is also a pretty good deal. The manufacturer (Brando) sells it on their website for a mere $20. Not bad considering I have paid more than that for both a universal charger and a 4 port USB hub alone. The flexible power options would prevent the need to take chargers for all of your devices with you when you travel. That makes it worth the price to me even if I never use the hub.
