Westinghouse Digital made a splash at the just-completed Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, showing off its new TX Series of LCD high-definition televisions.
Examiner.com's Darrell Proctor reports that the 1080p HDTVs - which feature a 120Hz refresh rate - are part of a line the company hopes will click with consumers looking for affordable viewing options.
"This was not a year when television was the focus of CES," said Proctor, who met with Westinghouse representatives at the show. "But Westinghouse showcased plenty of new products in a range of screen sizes, and presented several LCD computer monitors as well."
Many of the featured TVs will not be available until later this year, though three HDTV/DVD Player combo units are currently in stores:
The 120Hz frame rate in its new sets includes "motion estimation/motion compensation" technology - basically, it refreshes picture images at twice the speed of a standard 60Hz HDTV, and that provides a clearer picture.
The newest 120Hz HDTVs will come in screen sizes of 55-, 42- and 37 inches, and are expected to hit stores beginning in May. Pricing has not been announced.
Other 1080p LCD HDTVs range in screen sizes from 47 inches to 21.6 inches. New models are expected to be available in March and April of this year.
Smaller LCD HDTVs, ranging in screen size from 37 inches to 18.5 inches, should be available beginning in February.
Westinghouse's new product line also includes LCD computer monitors from 19 inches to 26 inches. The L2220HW 22-inch monitor is waiting for pricing; other models should be available in March or in the second half of 2009.
