The wind storm in the Denver area last night and this morning got me thinking about wind power again. What could be better than creating electricity; literally from thin air?
In keeping with the wind theme I went looking for plans to make an inexpensive wind turbine and I believe I have found one that seems reasonable. I have not built one yet and I suppose there are zoning issues to take into consideration; however, I thought I would pass my research along to my readers.
The best plan I have found so far is on the instructables web site (one of my favorites). It uses off the shelf components and things you probably can find free like a bicycle wheel and metal flashing used in construction. About all you have to spend money on is the motor/generator and you can usually find these pretty cheap (although they are getting harder to find). The instructables site has some good sources for you to explore.
The instructions are very detailed and it would be difficult for me to add to them so I will let you check them out for yourself. Find instructions on the instructables site under Ted Baer's Bicycle Wheel Windmill. Check it out and please let me know if you actually build one. Soon we may all have them considering how windy it can be in Colorado and elsewhere.
