Disney put its young superstars - Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato - together to record “Send It On.” A song Disney calls an “anthem.”

The song is part of Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green campaign extolling the virtues to young teens of reducing their carbon footprint by recycling, turning off lights, car-pooling and unplugging power adapters. You can see the video at Disney.

The new song can be downloaded at iTunes and, according to Disney's press release, 100% of the proceeds will go to environmental charities through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF).

Over 350,000 participants have already registered at Disney’s Project Green website and pledged to do reduce their carbon footprint. Disney estimates that “a potential 38 million pounds of carbon dioxide will be prevented from polluting the atmosphere - the equivalent of taking 3164 cars off the road every day for a year.”

In addition, participants in Friends for Change can vote on which environmental charities will receive the first charitable installment from DWCF. And, the leading vote-getters are:

  •  $100,000 - to help protect arctic wildlife, including polar bears, from the effects of climate change (to be implemented by Wildlife Conservation Society)
  • $50,000 - to the Children's Forest in Los Angeles to plant new trees (to be implemented by San Bernardino National Forest Association),
  • $50,000 - to protect endangered tropical forests in the Philippines (to be implemented by Birdlife International and its partner, Haribon),
  • $25,000 - to help end deforestation and introduce fuel efficient stoves to protect local habitats in Rwanda (to be implemented by CHF International),
  • $25,000 - to help end the deforestation in Central Mexico's Oyamel forest (to be implemented by ECOLIFE Foundation), and
  • $10,000 - to help replant trees in wildfire-damaged Florida state forests (to be implemented by Arbor Day Foundation).

Disney will debut the song in a special event “Lights, Camera, Take Action! Backstage with Disney's Friends for Change," Friday, August 28 on Disney Channel.
