Boston College has fired head football coach Jeff Jagodzinski.
This past weekend reports surfaced that Jagodzinski would be fired if he interviewed for the head coach position with the New York Jets.
Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo said at a Wednesday press conference that there was "a difference in vision" for both the present and the future of the program.
DeFilippo added that the decision was his, "It was my decision, I'm the director of athletics, I made it." He also added that he and Jagodzinski were "really divided."
Various reports have said that there was a "handshake agreement" between DeFilippo and Jagodzinski about communicting with other teams.
DeFilippo was clear that he wanted a coach who was completely committed to Boston College and had no interest in going elsewhere.
"I thought that we had a coach that wanted to be here for a long time, and that wasn't the case," DeFilippo said.
The two met this morning and the decision was officially made.
DeFilippo wouldn't comment on any speculation about the Jets job, but he said he considered Jagodzinski a close friend.
Boston College will now begin their search for a new coach. DeFilippo said they would be looking at candidates from both inside and outside the program. He added that he wants someone who will be there for the life of the contract.
DeFilippo said he thought he was open-minded throughout this whole process.
He would not comment on whether or not Jagodzinski would be brought back if he is not hired by the Jets, but that seems unlikely after the events of the past few days.
Jagodzinski has been the head coach of the Eagles for two years and had three years left on his contract. He had a record of 20-8, with a 1-1 record in bowl games.
