Michael Vick finally made his long-awaited return to the NFL, 1,001 days after suiting up for his last regular season game with the Atlanta Falcons.
The controversial quarterback turned wildcat sideshow has been the talk of the media for the past week as his long anticipated comeback loomed closer.
But now that he is back, there is one question that fans across the country are asking. “Is Vick worth owning in a fantasy league?”
For now (as in the 2009 season) the answer is a resounding “no.”
Look at his performance on Sunday. Vick only had seven yards rushing and went 0/2 on two ugly pass attempts.
Of course he will do a little bit more as he gets used to the speed of the NFL again and gets adjusted to his role in the Eagles offense, but those of you who are thinking he could pick up some significant time as the team’s primary quarterback are in for a rude awakening.
The Eagles already have a franchise quarterback in Donovan McNabb, and their backup isn’t too shabby either.
Former second round pick Kevin Kolb has filled in admirably while McNabb has been out by becoming the first player in league history to throw for 300 yards in his first two career starts. How many 300 yard games does Vick have in his career? Two, just like Kolb.
The bottom line is, barring a catastrophic turn of events for the Eagles, Vick will have a limited amount touches for the rest of the season.
Anyone who would actually start Vick would have to rely on him momentarily returning to his former “Superman” status while he breaks off a long touchdown run or throws a strike down field. You don’t want to be in that position.
Right now he is owned in 23 percent of Yahoo! leagues. 23 percent of the fantasy football players on Yahoo! are wasting a roster spot. Stay away!
