Burning man here I come!!!!
There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them.
There were times in my life when I never ventured outside my comfort zone; times when I stayed true to what other people had planned for me. Those times inspired my life with depression and a sense of emptiness. I remember shying away from anything fun in a desperate attempt to conform to other people’s wishes. By shying away from what was truly inside my soul I became reliant on others approval for my sustenance and sense of self.
I am grateful to report, that those times are well and truly over!
Tomorrow morning I am off to the burning man festival (
www.burningman.com ). I have heard so many examples of what this festival is and I am extremely excited about experiencing it for myself. I want to be able to spend one week being as creative and having as much fun as possible in one of the harshest environments in the world (
http://www.blackrockrangers.org/desert.html).
The aim of burning man according to the official site is to “…be part of an experimental community, which challenges its members to express themselves and rely on themselves to a degree that is not normally encountered in one's day-to-day life”. This aspect of self reliance is the 2nd reason why I am gleefully on my way to Burning man.
If I can come back from my one week experience having had as much fun as possible and learnt the art of self reliance I will have achieved my goals.
If any of you have ever had any experiences at Burning Man I would love to hear about them.
