Sending out your resume to countless positions day after day is a big, huge drag.
Been there, done that.
So one night I followed an on line ad to some company that offered to distribute my resume to hundreds/thousands of recruiters around the country.
WOW! How efficient does THAT sound?
Those companies have glowing testimonials from people who have used their services and immediately got calls on their resume. But, a few things (and these are BIG things) need to be in your favor.
First--your resume has GOT to be INCREDIBLE! Not mediocre, not good, but incredible. That baby's gotta sell you like nobody's business--because...
This email that's going out to recruiters is essentially an unsolicited email. These companies have no way of knowing that the recruiter is working on a search that fits your qualifications. They're just throwing your resume out there and hoping that the numbers game works in your favor.
Could it happen--yup. Is it likely--probably not.
Although it seems WAY more painful, doing research of recruiters who work in your industry or field, contacting them directly to see if they are working on anything that you might be a match for--and THEN sending your resume is a FAR better use of your resources. Painful? Yes. More likely to actually get you a job? Yes.
