The Willow Run Board of Education appointed an acting superintendent Tuesday. Laura Lisiscki, principal at Kaiser Elementary School, will temporarily replace Superintendent Dr. Doris Hope-Jackson. Local news outlets report that Hope-Jackson was recently in a severe car accident and has been unable to attend board meetings.

At the same meeting, the board appointed Don Garrett, a Willow Run graduate and local minister, to fill a recently-vacated school board seat . Former board vice president Harold Wimberly resigned his seat on Oct. 5.

The 2009-10 school year is off to a rough start for Willow Run. The district is one of two school districts in Washtenaw County who are running a deficit. The other is the Ypsilanti Public Schools. Willow Run also recently lost its finance director to the Ypsilanti school district.
