Find out more about Caitlin: Caitlin’s connection to autism comes from growing up with a mother who taught special needs children for over 23 years. Ever since she was little, Caitlin would stop by the classroom to play games, help with homework, or just engage in conversation. Caitlin always had a knack for connecting with students and was even able to teach one boy how to swim after struggling in group lessons! Now a senior at the University of Maryland and far away from her connections at home in New Jersey, Caitlin has found a new way to reach out to the special needs community. She is now an intern at Autism Speaks - National Capital Area. Here, she builds support for events like the 2009 Walk Now for Autism Speaks that raise money for autism research.
