Chicago legend, Oprah Winfrey has bared Gospel singer singer BeBe Winans from her show until domestic charges against him are resolved. Winans had appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show last week and was seen in promos for future appearances. From The Associated Press, ""Now he'll be cut out of the segment," said Winfrey spokesman Don Halcombe on Thursday. Halcombe would only say that the decision to eliminate Winans was made this last week. It was not clear if Winfrey had been aware that Winans was charged with misdemeanor domestic assault in the Feb. 13 incident, where Winans and his ex-wife Debra were allegedly arguing about their children. Winans has a court date set for Jan. 20."
Oprah was criticized last week by some bloggers, such as The Hollywood Gossip for scheduling Winans on her show. Oprah has denounced domestic violence earlier this year on her show when she covered singer Chris Brown assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna. Oprah said, "Domestic violence is something that I wouldn't tolerate. Period."
Debra and BeBe were married for 16 years, divorced in 2003. But in February, Debra claims that BeBe threw her to the ground in front of their children. It is reported that the dispute was concerning custody issues surrounding their two children, a 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son.
Debra told Nashville TV's WSMV: "Until you realize something's not changing, you pray all day long. The power of God is real, but one thing he's not going to do is go against someone's will. We make choices," Debra is now speaking out to help victims of domestic violence. A report on TMZ says that "the famous gospel singer's ex-wife raised hell and implied Oprah was a moral hypocrite." It seems that Oprah got the message.
