More than 1,800 domestic and international competitors earned the right to compete in the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 by qualifying at one of the 31 Ironman 70.3 events held around the world. The Ironman 70.3 events consist of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. A professional prize purse totaling $100,000 will be offered.??The race started and finished at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach. The nearby Harborview Center and Sand Key Resort will hosted several of the pre-and post-race activities, including athlete check-in and the banquet functions.
Top finishers race results are in! The times were blazing fast. Michael Drage ran a 1:09 for the 1/2 marathon and broke the course record, that was set last year by Terenzo Bozzone. Julie Dibens got her win after 3 tries in under 4 hours and with a new course record! There were photo finishes in both the men’s and women’s races.
