November is  National American Indian Heritage Month and there are a number of great resources on the web detailing simple and fun activities you and your kids can do together to learn a bit more about Native American history and culture.

The Museum of Indian Culture in Allentown, PA has a number of printable activity sheets available on their website.  Print a worksheet about the origins of the totem pole, complete with directions for creating your own out of a paper towel tube or check out the instructions for playing the Native American stick-in-the-hoop game.  Looking for a more complex activity suitable for older children?   There is also a step-by-step guide to crafting a dream catcher.

Enchanted Learning offers instructions for making homemade Hopi Kachina dolls, paper canoes, and rainsticks, among other activities that  require materials you probably have lying around the house.  The site's projects are intended for younger children.

Crazy Crow Trading Post sells a variety of craft kits that are great for both younger and older children.  The kits range in price from a mere $3.50 to $14.75 and include the instructions and supplies to create everything from an American Indian headdress to a dance whistle and more.
