1. Water, shade, air. Seattle is now experiencing one of its hottest times of the year, and as hot as the summer has already been, this next week will be particularly bad. Not only will it be hot, but we are already under air stagnation warnings. Making sure that you have proper air flow and quality is just as important as staying cool and hydrated.

2. Morning quiet times. Working hard during the day in the heat can be tiring, making it difficult to sit down and concentrate. Consider changing your personal devotion time to the morning to beat the heat.

3. Good Samaritan. There can be no better way to show Christ's love than show concern for people. Know an elderly person or other person of need across the street? Go over to make sure they have water and adequate air movement. Volunteer to run errands so they don't have to go outside. The only thing more miserable than unbearable heat is being alone.

4. Shopping, with patience. Many people escape the heat by going out to stores with air conditioning during the worst of the day's heat. While this can be a very smart decision, one must remember that we are always models of Christ. Having a good attitude will help others enjoy themselves. Heated tempers only make it seem hotter outside.

5. Pray for comfort. God gives comfort to other issues than just emotional comfort. Asking for coolness during this heat wave can only be effective as we seek God's providence.

Grow in Christ, and stay cool.
