Shawn Alexander played nine seasons for the Seattle Seahawks. During that time he ran for 2,429 yards, caught the ball for an additional 1,511 yards, and had a total of 112 touchdowns. The 2005 season saw him at the height of his game, helping the Seahawks to their only Superbowl appearance and earning him MVP honors.
Now Alexander has taken up a different mission off the field. He is now touring America talking to whomever will listen. His message is the love of God, and he is spreading it to children, congregations, and the needy.
"It's been fun. We've been able to go out there and help the homeless and get them food and stuff," Alexander said. "I've been able to walk the streets and I've been able to just talk to people. It's been really cool."
Alexander is also helping raise money to send children to Fellowship of Christian Athletes sports camps. He has already visited Mobile, and has plans to travel to Seattle, L.A., Tulsa, Dallas, Baton Rouge, Washington D.C., and Atlanta. He will conclude the tour returning to Alabama to visit Birmingham on July 14.
Alexander's trip is an inspiration to many. Already seen as a positive role model for today's children, Alexander's faith gives proper focus to his priorities for everyone. By answering God's call, he can help encourage people who need to hear the Gospel. His return to Seattle will be a celebration for Seahawks fans and believers alike.
