You may frequently check your page to update your small business status, check the status of your customers or check your email for potential business leads but are you doing enough to maintain the overall quality of your social networking site? Maintaining all aspects of your social networking site is just as pertinent to your small business success as maintaining marketable items such as business cards and company websites.
Here are some tips I use to ensure my social networking sites are maintained:
Maintain accurate contact information. The last time you want is for a client to be unable to contact you because your business contact information was incorrect. If you have changed your business location, telephone number or website information, you need to change that information immediately on all of your social networking sites.
Upload or change documents. If your business is a service or supplier of products and your offerings change then your page should reflect that change. You do not want your clients inquiring about products you have visible on your page which you no longer possess, unless you are a seasonal supplier. Keep your product and service listed at all times.
Delete or block unwanted comments and friends. If you do not maintain your site frequently and you have relaxed controls on your business page then you may be subjecting your site to unwanted SPAM, comments and friend or fan requests. These items are often visible to others and could hurt how your company is viewed by others. You also want to be sure the persons who chose to attach themselves to your business page are reputable. Meaning you should not want anyone with less than favorable sayings or photos linked to your business page.
Simple maintenance of your social networking page can mean the difference between a good or bad page for clients to visit. Remember you are in control of your social networking experience so set limits on your page and maintain a page that visitors will respect and frequent.
