December shoppers will find environmentally friendly gifts and decorations for sale at the Green Holiday Arts & Craft Festival. Nearly 40 artists, craftspeople and vendors are filling the Valley Unitarian Universalist (VUU) church with everything from pottery to jewelry and tie-die to silk scarves. There's live music and cookies, too!

The festival is a great opportunity to find unique gifts that are also environmentally friendly. All the artists use eco-friendly processes and materials to produce an amazing array of products. For instance, one local greeting card artist produces the paper used in the cards using recycled paper made in a paper mill using wind-generated electricity. Cookies and lunch will also be available. Proceeds from the lunch will be donated to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will go to support the Chandler Christian Community Center.

The Valley Unitarian Universalist congregation moved to the current location on W. Del Rio Dr. in Chandler in 5 years ago this January. The facility includes the Sanctuary and two classrooms (are are available to rent for weddings, meetings or concerts at very reasonable rates). The congregation itself began as a gathering of Tempe Unitarian Universalists (UUs) in the mid-1960's when the only Unitarian Universalist church in the metro area was in Paradise Valley. Today, the congregation is a vibrant and growing community whose covenant is:

Love is the doctrine of this church;

The quest for truth is its sacrament;

And service is its prayer.

To dwell together in peace;

To seek knowledge in freedom;

To serve humankind in Friendship;

Thus do we covenant.

The Festival is being held today, December 13, until 4:00 p.m. Admission is Free for all. VUU is located at 6400 W. Del Rio Dr. (east of I-10 and west of Kyrene between Ray Rd. and Chandler Blvd.)
