photo from house.govCongressman Donald M. Payne of New Jersey is the latest member of the House of Representatives to show support for the Roadmap to End Global Hunger legislation (H.R. 2817). There are now 27 representatives co-sponsoring the bill.

The Roadmap legislation seeks to establish a White House office on global hunger to more effectively coordinate various U.S. government agencies. A number of organizations including Save the Children, World Vision, Catholic Relief Services, the Friends of the World Food Program and Mercy Corps made recommendations that formed the Roadmap bill.

The ultimate goal of the bill is to make global hunger a top priority for the Obama administration. With a White House office on global hunger a more coordinated strategy can be implemented to deal with the crisis that now impacts over 1 billion people worldwide. Afghanistan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia are some of the many countries where the population suffers from hunger and malnutrition.

Representative Jim McGovern of Massachusetts introduced the Roadmap bill earlier this year. Here is a list of members of the House of Representatives co-sponsoring H.R. 2817, the Roadmap to End Global Hunger:
