Luck, fate, and a great voice have all been assets to Orlando’s Rob Weddle.
After two rounds, Weddle has made it to the finals of Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge. A Brunswick, MD native now living in Orlando, FL, Weddle is now among the three finalists of Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge.
Weddle sang Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” on the November 5 edition of the show. Weddle wowed judges Gladys Knight (who remarked that he had “an amazing voice”), Billy Ray Cyrus (who called Weddle “great!”) and Ashford & Simpson (who jokingly lamented that Weddle sang higher than they do). Weddle was then voted in to the finals, along with Abraham McDonald of Los Angeles, CA and Donnie Denny of Hertford, North Carolina.
Making it to the finals of Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge has been a storybook dream come true for Weddle. Weddle, after being a customer service rep for a medical publication company, has been unemployed for about 8 months. Weddle and his wife still liked to go out to Karaoke, and continued that tradition.
By chance, he and his wife went to Citiwalk’s Rising Star – a place he had never been – and sang. It was there he happened to catch the attention of gospel singer BeBe Winans who, at that point, was scouting for Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge.
Weddle knew nothing of the Karaoke Challenge until he was approached by Winans to participate. Now, Weddle has the opportunity of a lifetime if he wins the Challenge.
The finals of Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge, on which Orlando’s Rob Weddle will compete, airs this Thursday, November 12 at 4 pm on WFTV channel 9.
