Rosen Shingle Creek   Photo by Troy Vaughn

What a wonderful week and weekend we had a Shingle Creek in Orlando.  I was very entertained by the beautiful David Harman design par 72 (7,228 yards) Championship Golf Course.  Named by Golfweek as One of America’s Top 40 New Courses, it hosts water on 16 holes and 98 bunkers, and has an exceptional service oriented staff.  It did not disappoint.

I finished my round with a cold beer and lunch at A Land to Remember Restaurant.  This was a wonderful finish to a great round.  I liked it so much, I returned for Steaks on Saturday Night.

As we were staying for a conference, it was quite easy to see how well prepared the staff at Shingle Creek was for our visit.  With over 2,300 guests for the conference, it became obvious that Shingle Creek was new, but didn't lack the experience to feed this many people in a heavy hor'dorves and Drink arrangement, quickly and efficiently.  Our conference hosts put on a dinner the final night as well, with guest speaker Dennis Miller, of Saturday Night Live fame.  Absolutely Hilarious!

Shingle Creek sits upon a lush 230 acres and has a natural area behind the hotel with a 10 mile running trail and a 1.5 mile nature walking trail that leads you to...you guessed it, Shingle Creek.  This is actually the headwaters to the Florida Everglades ecosystem and is awash with wonderful birds and animals.  Shingle Creek gets its name from the original settlers who harvested the cypress trees from this region to build roofing shingles and shelters.  But don't get too scared by all the signs warning you of all the wildlife that lives back there and all the terrible ways that these animals can consume you.  I only saw some ducks and one rabbit.

With a wonderfully luxurious room, a Starbuck's in the lobby, and only 11 miles from Disney's Epcot Center(Don't bother going unless your 10 years old), Rosen Shingle Creek is a wonderful facility for a major business conference, wedding, or gala, as they can handle them all, and often several different ones at one time.

OK, the one downfall is that there isn't much to do here in the evenings, with the exception of A Land Remembered, which is a steakhouse and lounge, and the lobby bar.  So plan to catch a cab over to the nearby nightclub smorgesborg of Downtown Disney (about $20 bucks in a cab and $40 in an Escalade). Until Shingle Creek adds a Casino or Dance Night Club to their facility, then This will not be the greatest place to hold your incentive meeting or conference.  As for now, its just a really great place to hold your event.

A big thank you to United Stationers for having me.  A conference well done!
