I love flowers, candy and visits to the spa as much as the next girl, but motherhood has forced me to become a realist. Mother's Day gifts these days are more often handmade treasures from the kids or practical items I didn't even know I needed from my husband, if I'm lucky.
But while I appreciate that they think of me, I have a secret Mother's day fantasy. Most moms do, I think.
Ideally, my day would begin with my husband keeping the kids quietly entertained until I awoke naturally to the smell of fresh-brewed coffee--at which time breakfast and my fresh-faced, smiling family would be waiting for me at the table.
The house would be clean and the kids would be getting along perfectly.
The kids and their dad would plan a peaceful and fun day for our family to enjoy together, which would conclude with the kids being dropped off with the grandparents for the evening so that my husband and I could enjoy a romantic dinner.
I don't think I'm much different than most Moms. While most of us wouldn't complain if you bought us expensive and extravagant gifts, what we really want is time with our families.
What about you? What is your Mother's Day fantasy?
