Copic marker tips and tricks
There are many websites, blogs and videos that can be good sources of information for Copic marker usage and techniques. In addition, many local scrapbook stores have Copic classes taught by Copic Certified Designers. While it can be good to have so many sources of information, sometimes it can be overwhelming.
In this article, I will include a sampling of tips, techniques and other miscellaneous pieces of information that I have found helpful in using Copic markers. These are not necessarily in a particular order.
- If you use Copic markers on something that will be exposed to light for a while, you will need to seal it. Super Seal by Creative Imaginations is one product that can be used. You can also protect your artwork with UV coated glass.
- If you are using Copic markers on a mixed media project, use your Copic markers first before adding paint, chalk, etc. You do not want the tip of your marker to go through other media as it may damage or discolor it.
- To remove Copic markers from clothing use Grandmas Secret Spot Remover. To remove it from your hands or to clean the markers, use liquid hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol.
- If you live in a humid area, you can iron the paper you are using with a craft iron to remove some of the humidity. This will help to keep your Copic ink from bleeding past your stamp lines.
- To add texture to your colored image, you can use a couple of different techniques with blender solution, including: holding the blender pen down in one place to create dots, using a textured object, like a piece of fabric, dabbed with blender solution pressed onto the image or using an empty ink pad soaked with blender solution with various textured objects. You can use a piece of denim to create a subtle texture on blue jean images.
- You can color on both sides of a transparency with different colors. That way the second color will not remove the first.
- The gray band on Copic markers is on the brush end of the marker. This makes it easy to find the tip you are looking for without looking for the brush indicator or opening both ends.
- You can use Copic markers to change the color of brads, rhinestones, flowers, ribbon, metal or other embellishments.
Hopefully these tips will be helpful to you. I know I was not aware of #7 until someone pointed it out to me!
