October 2009 Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Pink October kicks off today highlighting Breast Cancer Awareness. Pink-themed promos for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, LA City of Hope, Women's Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry and others are sprouting around - all to make us even more aware of breast cancer and the global efforts to find its cure. It is hackneyed, you say; but we can not help but stress the importance of taking extra care of that part of our body. So as trite as it sounds, let this Examiner remind you...
It is recommended that every three years, women between 20 and 30 years old should have Clinical Breast Examinaton or CBE by a health professional. Once they reach 40, screening should be yearly and that includes getting a mammogram. Low cost mammograms are being offered in
West Hollywood Mammography.
Going south from WHM, there is a community of music-loving snowboarders, surfers and skaters. Their cause:
Boarding for Breast Cancer. B4BC is a non-profit youth-oriented group which teaches breast cancer detection and prevention. It allows us to share related stories online, invites people to join their boarding activities and raises fund for breast cancer cure. Join or be a spectator to their
3rd Annual Skate the Coast in Santa Monica, CA on October 24th, Saturday.
Then on October 25th, Sunday, City of Hope is hosting the Los Angeles Walk for Hope. LA Walk for Hope is a national breast cancer walk series to fund its breast cancer programs. If you would like to participate, you can register online as early as today.
Lacoste, known for its crocodile-embroidered shirts, is also pro-pink. It has already launched its
2nd annual Lacoste Pink Croc Collection with Leslie Mann. You can purchase online or make a trip to either Beverly Center or Rodeo Drive. Lee Jeans will also contribute $5 to the Women's Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry for any orders clicked through
Lee.com. This will only run through October 22nd so if you have any plans for a new skinny pair, you have 21 days left. Remember, online support only at
Lee.com.
Your feel-good ensemble is not complete without new footwear. Shop for a pair and pay less at Payless ShoeSource. Then to show your support to the cause, get the Breast Cancer Awareness bracelet for only $2! That is right - just $2 for that sweet little pink charm! Payless will donate a minimum guaranteed donation of $100,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Visit a store at Hollywood Plaza in Vermont Ave. or its branch at the corner of Western Ave. and Sta. Monica Blvd. For more store locations near you, click here.
