It took me a long time to come around to doing yoga at home, or any type of exercise at home. I think I was scarred by the collection of Cathisthenics videos my best friend had growing up, full of legwarmers, feathered hair, scary leotards and Glamour Shots lighting. They were funny and all, but for the longest time this is how I pictured a home workout. But sometimes necessity breeds change, and this is how I finally came around to doing yoga at home now and then. In the midst of a job change and figuring out a new schedule, sometimes it was just too hot/cold/tiring/inconvenient/expensive to get to the yoga studio or gym. And most recently, I've simply found myself a little too pregnant.
I'm still not a huge fan of many yoga videos but I know there are some great ones out there. Many times I found practicing on my own was just as good if not better and I didn't have to spend half the time craning my neck to see what the instructor inside the TV screen was doing. But recently I found I needed to break out of my typical routine and was in need of some direction and variety, and I was so excited to run across the My Yoga Online website. For under $10 a month you get unlimited access to their yoga video library, which currently has over 60 videos ranging in level, style and duration. I skepticaly test drove several videos and was pleasantly surprised. The videos are full-screen DVD quality, the instructors are very pleasant and easy to follow, and the variety is awesome. They're also apparently adding new videos all the time. In addition to the videos the site has a lot of helpful information including information on meditation, nutrition, different poses, links to yoga music and products, and the requisite yoga blog.
