The 2001 Civic is one of the models affected in Honda's airbag recall.

Honda has reported that they are expanding on a previous recall of Accord, Civic, and Acura TL vehicles due to faulty airbag inflators that have the possibility of sending shrapnel through inflated airbags. The total number of vehicles affected by this recall is currently 440,000.

One fatality and numerous injuries have resulted due to the faulty airbag inflators. The problem isn't exactly new, but is instead an expansion on a previous problem that was discovered late last year.

The recall covers 2001 and 2002 Accords, 2001 Civics, and 2002 and 2003 Acura TL sedans. Owners of these vehicles are advised to contact their local dealerships immediately to see which steps they should take next to resolve these problems.
