The fledgling Toyota FJ Cruiser, which has seen it's sales drop almost 57% so far this year with only 7,148 units sold is getting a few changes for the 2010 model that Toyota hopes can boost interest in the vehicle.
Tweaks to the FJ Cruiser that are slated are an addition of 18 horsepower to the SUV's engine and a fuel rating improvement of one mile to the gallon to bring the FJ Cruiser up to 18 city, 22 highway on the 2 wheel drive variation.
Toyota has also added dual variable valve timing and roller rocker arms to the FJ Cruiser's 4.0-liter V6 engine. The FJ Cruiser shares the same engine with the Toyota Tacoma, although Toyota claims the Tacoma will go into the next year model unchanged from it's current version. Total horsepower for the Toyota FJ Cruiser will now be 258.
To top it all off, Toyota says that some minor suspension modifications have dropped the turning circle by more than a foot and a new Army Green exterior color will be on offer. Prices, however, are up $360 across the board. Hopefully the FJ Cruiser can bounce back and not see an untimely death like what the Ford Explorer Sport Trac experienced.
