Recently, two pit bull puppies were picked up on separate occasions as "strays" in Bakersfield, California.
These dogs had not just lost their way, however. Both had been purposely doused with acid which severely burned them.
Found by animal control officers, they had been left alone to suffer unimaginable pain and eventual death.
Rescuers have taken these pups in and each have had to endure intense surgeries to remove infected skin in hopes that their wounds can be healed.
The ongoing care for Smokey and Charlie, as they are now known, will be long and costly.
The rescuers and followers of this tragic story have come together to offer a $5000 reward for the capture and arrest of the person(s) responsible for this horrendous act of cruelty.
They are asking that everyone circulate fliers like the one pictured here.
You can follow Smokey and Charlie's Animal Abuse TASK Force on Facebook and while there can make a donation, if you wish.
