In the last of their four pre-season games, the Toledo Walleye took on the Port Huron IceHawks today at the Toledo IceHouse on Alexis Road.  Hundreds of Walleye fans and a handful of IceHawks supporters filled the stands to watch the IceHawks defeat the Walleye 5-2.

After a seemingly quiet first period, the IceHawks got on the board first, connecting on the power play following an interference call against Mike HeddenMike Kinnie took a pass from Daniel Tetrault to put Port Huron up 1-0.

The first period featured some excitement in the final minutes, with the towering 6'7" winger Milan Maslonka dropping the gloves with Mike Bray of the IceHawks.

Mike Kinnie continued his scoring streak in the second period, nabbing his second powerplay goal of the evening on Walleye netminder Dan Tormey just after five minutes in.

Following a goaltender change on both ends, the IceHawks continued to roll in the middle stanza, with Mikael Bedard and Ian Turner each taking passes from Cory Stillman to score and give Port Huron the 4-0 lead.

The Walleye finally got on the board late in the second, with Ryan Smyth besting Adam Russo off helpers from Mike Hedden and Brandon Naurato.

After Walleye goaltender Ian Kesherich was called for delay of game, the Walleye went down 5-1 early in the third period when Mike Kinnie connected to make it a hat trick for the evening.

Although Toledo's Evan Rankin lit the lamp off a pass from Mike Hedden halfway though the third and they had a few additional scoring chances, the penalties got the best of the Walleye, losing with a final score of 5-2.

The match was the last opportunity for a number of players to show their best skills as the final roster cuts are coming as soon as tonight.  The Walleye continue their training camp this week as they prepare for the very exciting opening night this Friday at the brand new Lucas County Arena.
