Find out more about Derek: Derek is employed by the St. Petersburg Times covering North Suncoast prep sports and as the Hernando Times youth sports reporter. A Massachusetts native, Derek moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1993, where he graduated from Springstead High in 1999. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a communications degree in May 2004. Derek also covered collegiate sports as the editor-in-chief of the UCF sports magazine KnightVision.
