Just some of the technology that could be part of the debate

With everyone debating health-care reform, it’s important not to forget that gadgets and technology are an important (but often overlooked) part of the debate.

Can’t afford a doctor or insurance? Maybe you can learn to do it yourself using one of these great games. Trauma Center New Blood on the Wii will teach you all about medicine – including the politics and bureaucracy that is a treasured part of our health care system. Windows or Mac users should enjoy “Emergency Room: Disaster Strikes”.

Who needs expensive medical tests when there are gadgets to measure just about everything? How about the Taylor 5596G scale that claims to not only measure your weight, but also calculates your body fat, body water, bone and muscle mass? A Finger Pulse Oximeter let’s you know instantly how oxygenated your blood is without a visit to the doctor. And even if you don’t know what to do with the Omron Sprague Rappaport Stethoscope, at least you’ll look like a doctor while wearing it.

If government death panels sound to you like a great idea, you won’t be able to resist that PS2 classic “Celebrity Death Match” in which 20 celebrities pummel each other without the aid of government or insurance company bureaucrats. Kids can enjoy Death Jr. and The Science Fair of Doom (gotta love the title).

And if health care reform doesn’t pass? Those tens of millions of uninsured, along with those kicked out of their insurance plan when they need it most, can rest assured that technology will never let them down. Be sure to check out Quicken WillMaker Plus 2009 (and do it soon).
