Flight Simulator
The end of an era

Among the jobs cut at Microsoft today are the entire development team for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator software. Microsoft Flight simulator is probably the most popular consumer flight simulator game and has been in available in one version or another since the early 80’s.

While this is unlikely to impact availability of the current version of the software, it bodes ill for any future development including support for the software on newer systems and video cards.

This serves as a reminder when buying any gadget in today's tough economy. It's not enough to pick the least expensive of even highest quality gadget - you want to try to make sure the company behind it will last long enough to provide support and honor any warranties as well. Of course Microsoft will still be around to at least provide technical support on this product - but with no improvements coming, other products will ultimately bypass it and Flight Simulator will fade into history.
