The Senate is waiting for the Congressional Budget Office to calculate the Senate draft of the health care bill. It’s being reported that Senate majority leader Harry Reid, (D-Nev) is waiting until then to reveal the Senate version. House majority leader Steny Hoyer, (D-Md) said the house could be in session until Christmas Eve to give President Obama what he wants.
You have to hand it to the democrats, they really stick together. The republicans have not been able to do the same for some time and it’s doubtful they ever will. Especially when Fox is making fun of the only republican that had a solution for and predicted the recession, Congressman Ron Paul (R-Tex). It was very clever of them to take over the tea parties and set up the same old republicans for 2010 but if they want unity in 2012 they’ll have to do better than that.
Reports say Reid may very well get the 60 votes needed to get this bill to the floor after the republicans reject the motion. Cloture may not happen for weeks but even if the republicans manage to add amendments or delete the public option there is said to be language in the bill that would allow states to cooperate and the bill will most likely pass.
Reid is confident the bill will be passed early next year. The present estimated cost of the house version is 1.2 trillion over the next ten years.
