In addition to the standard costume dance parties, a new Halloween tradition is becoming popular in Boston clubs: local bands performing tributes to their favorite acts. The bands want to get in on the dress-up fun, and with Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, most bars and clubs are getting into the act.

Here's a list of some of the more interesting Halloween parties in the clubs this weekend.

Tonight, 10/29:

TT the Bears:

The Name Of This Band Is The Talking Heads
(Members of Mean Creek, Campaign For Real Time, and Polarbaron) (midnight)

John Powhida & Chris Cote as Robert Palmer Robert Palmer w/ allstar band (11:00pm)

Preacher Roe as The Replacements (10:00pm)

Heavens To Murgatroid as The Who (9:00pm)  $9.

Friday 10/30:

At Great Scott:

The Pill's 7th annual Halloween Show
with The Daily Pravda as RADIOHEAD
Televandals as THE CLASH
The Honors as THE SMITHS
Lindsey Starr & the Chemical Smiles as THE SOUNDS. 21+ 8pm $10.00

The Midway Cafe in J.P. is having two nights of tributes. Friday's show features The Battleship Cometh As Led Zeppelin and The Full-Time Dreamers as hair-metalers Posion. The Left Foot will also be performing an as-yet-announced-but-surely-kindred tribute. Saturday's show features tributes to Black Sabbath and Guns 'n Roses.

Speaking of hair metalers, Oliver's at the Cask & Flagon will be throwing a Halloween Hair Ball on Friday.

The Middle East upstairs isn't having a tribute night, but is featuring some bands that are Halloweenly dark and heavy:  A Place to Bury Strangers, Dead Confederate, and All the Saints. 18+, $12

Saturday 10/31

On Halloween itself, most bars all over town will host costume parties. But the ultimate rock and roll Halloween show will be a short drive out of town: G.W.A.R. is bringing their horror-movie monster costumes, thrash metal songs and blood-spewing spectacle to the Worcester Palladium. $23 advance tickets, 8:00 PM show.
