Did you read Three Cups of Tea, about Greg Mortenson's failed K2 summit attempt and subsequent journey to building schools for impoverised villages in Pakistan? I read the book and loved the story. Did it inspire you to want to be able to do something like that? Well, now you can!
My friend Chris Mackay, who runs the incredible nonprofit Crooked Trails community-based travel organization in Seattle, has just announced this once-in-a-lifetime experience:
I am leading a Crooked Trails trip to Nepal this Nov. 14-28 to build a school in the Kavre area of Nepal. Please come with me! If you have dreamed of that 'Three Cups of Tea' experience; THIS IS IT.
The program is only 2 weeks and costs only $1980, and 80% is a tax deduction. We can also create a great extension to go trekking in the Himalayas afterwards.
This school is badly needed and will allow young girls to attend school almost all of whose mothers cannot read as they never had the opportunity to learn. Help make a difference in the lives of others and have a transformational experience of a life time for yourself.
The village is depending on us to come.
Thanks,
Christine Torrison Mackay
Executive Director, Crooked Trails
The Crooked Trails mantra is: Travel to be Inspired; Travel to be Challenged; Travel with a Purpose. Crooked Trails was founded on the premise that tourism does not have to threaten the cultures and environments of popular destinations and fragile regions. As an educational non-profit organization, we create true cultural exchanges that make positive contributions to host communities and have lasting effects on our travelers. Crooked Trails participants return home having learned ways to incorporate lessons from these exchanges into their own lives and communities. You can read a previous story I wrote about them here.
