Alright, its Halloween time and everyone's getting ready for a spooky night of fun. One thing that is a must is checking out a scary movie or two.
So this year, I've created a list of some of my favorite horror movies. Some are classics, some slashers, so there is something for everyone. Every week I'll be listing and talking about a few. If you haven't seen any of these, I highly recommend you checking them out. You won't be disappointed. If there are any you don't see here that you think I should check out, let me know in the comments! These are not listed in any particular order.
Chakushin ari (One Missed Call) (2003) Check this out instead of its dead on arrival remake. It's J-Horror at its best. A group of college students start receiving calls to their cell phones that: 1.Play a ringtone they didn't download, 2. Is from a time in the future by two days, and 3. When they check their voicemail, it's their death recorded. This seems to have some sort of tech warning message, but is a little more than that. There is a scene where one of the girls that receives a call is put on live TV for an exorcism that will make everyone cringe. The DVD has a dubbed version so reading is not required, which could distract from some awesome visuals.

Poltergeist (1982) It begins not with a bang, but rather with The Star Spangled Banner, setting the stage for a film that hits Americans right where they live: in their middle-class houses, in front of the TV. Directed by Tobe Hooper – Yup, the director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre– is a good, old-fashioned ghost story, along the lines of The Uninvited(1944) and The Haunting(1963), except with special effects which were, at the time the film was made, state of the art...but, then, would you expect any less from a film produced by Steven Spielberg? The image of little Carol Anne sitting in front of a television, laying hands on the set, is how most people remember the film...well, that coupled with her immortal one-liner: "They're here!" But there's stuff in this movie that, if you watch it when you're a kid, can royally screw you up for life, particularly in the way it utilizes closets, thunderstorms and tree branches brushing against bedroom windows to get major scares. (Don't even get me started on that evil clown doll.) One wonders how many people went straight from the theater to their city planning office, just to be 100% certain that their house wasn't built on a graveyard. And just when you think it's over, it's get's you one more time.
