Green Your Home Expo at the University of the District of Columbia
Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 10am to 2pm, the District of Columbia Office of Planning, District Department of the Environment, and the Office of Councilmember Mary Cheh hosted the “Green Your Home Expo” in the outdoor plaza of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).
The event was held in an effort to educate and motivate citizens to learn about green initiatives in their neighborhood; and well as give them solutions for making homes energy efficient and implementing renewable energy alternatives. Demonstrations showcased environmentally sound habits, products, and features - such as
green roofs. The expo’s vendors also included organic, local farmers’ produce, free seeds to plant vegetable gardens, and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’
National Capital Region Climate Change Report. The UDC Cooperative Extension Service Center for Nutrition, Diet and Health also hosted a booth to present informational materials on healthy eating, wholesome recipes and nutrition facts. Other give-aways included reusable bags from the District Department of the Environment, Giant, and the University of the District of Columbia Cooperative Extension Service.
Wholeness for Humanity conducted three, bicycle eco-tours throughout the event to promote environmental cooperation and awareness as well as inspire conscious, healthy lifestyles. A number of local advocacy and wellness organizations also participated. For a line-up, refer to
