The popular Golf Channel reality series Big Break returns this fall with one of its most talented line-ups yet. This season's show is set at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida and features twelve men hopeful of earning an exemption in a PGA Tour event.
This season's cast features a brother of a PGA player (Mike Perez, brother of Pat), sons of famous people (Rudy Giuliani's son Andrew and Susan Lucci's son Andreas Huber), an Olympic gold medalist (Ed Moses, swimming), a caddie (Kevan Maxwell, or KMAX, the early favorite to become this season's villain), the husband of a previous Big Break contestant (Kevin Erdman, married to Courtney from Big Break Ka'anapali), brothers who turned pro in their teens and drive the ball over 340 yards (Gipper and Tony Finau), and a player back to competitive golf for just a few months after years away from the game after his mother kidnapped him to force him to play golf at age 10 (Sean Kalin).
Leading the field for interest in Portland, however, is Oregon State alum and Portland native Vincent Johnson. Vincent was the recipient of the first ever Charlie Sifford Exemption which earned him a place in the 2009 Northern Trust Open. Although he missed the cut in that event, he gained valuable experience that will no doubt benefit him as this season of Big Break unfolds. In the premiere episode last week, Vincent showed that his game will hold up under the stresses of elimination challenges as he swiftly slammed the door on some of his fellow competitors by sticking the green in a distance-based challenge.
The Golf Channel has wisely decided to bring back Vince Cellini and Stephanie Sparks to host this season after experimenting with some other combinations the past few seasons. Big Break: Disney Golf airs Tuesdays at 7:00 Pacific Time on The Golf Channel.
