Friday, October 23, 2009: The Cincinnati Tea Party and the Cincinnati 9/12 Project have joined forces this week to remind Congress that "We Surround Him." Members will surround Steve Driehaus to visibly show opposition to the health care bill. Congressman Steve Driehaus has steadfastly supported the expansive health care reform package.
People driving home from work over the last two days have probably seen members of both the Cincinnati Tea Party and the Cincinnati 9/12 Project with their protest signs at the exit ramps of Interstate 275 in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. The members have been distributing information to commuters regarding the health care bill being considered in Congress.
The finale to this week's "We Surround Him" activities will take place on Saturday, October 24 at 4:00 p.m. in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cincinnati Tea Party and the Cincinnati 9/12 Project members invite other concerned citizens to bring signs and join them as they encircle the Carew Tower office building, 441 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202, which is the Cincinnati office of District One Congressman Steve Driehaus.
After the rally around the tower, the group will assemble across the street on Fountain Square. Speakers will summarize the message of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free markets for members and onlookers in attendance. Congressional candidate Steve Chabot has accepted an invitation to speak about the health care issue on the Square. Congressman Steve Driehaus has also been invited to speak on Saturday afternoon. There has been no response from Congressman Driehaus' office. The event will end with a call for concerned citizens to contact legislators and make their voices heard in Washington, D.C.
The Cincinnati Tea Party has taken issue with the secretive manner in which a health care reform bill has been crafted, noting the staggering cost, as well as the prospective rationing of care and government infringement on liberty and privacy that pervade every aspect of the bills that have been presented. The Cincinnati Tea Party believes that numerous free-market concepts to reform health care have not been considered in the reform process. According to Cincinnati Tea Party Director Chris Littleton, "We are quickly approaching a great crossroads for our nation.... A bill of this proposed size, influence, and magnitude violates all of our core values." For those who have not yet become engaged in the debate, he summarizes the health care bill as, "a definite march toward more aggressive wealth redistribution and a terrible blow to personal liberty."
